A Strong Return

Heya, friends!

We're not dead!  We've been very quiet with communication, and that's mainly my fault.  There's a lot of firsts for us, especially myself.  This is the first I've been in charge of updating a group of people, so I got sidetracked until things started to fall apart.  Moving forward, I promise to keep this project more updated as things happen.  Feel free to kick me if I don't.

Moving on to a more relevant topic, SoN is moving along nicely.  We're working on a lot of areas, including art and story, though it can be slow at times.  since my last post, we've made a lot of progress, and I can't wait to share it all with you!

An Expanded Team!

First off, this concept art was drawn by one of our artists.  Ruffu, the one behind this art, is an amazing character designer.

Our other artist, Tiffany, has talent in all areas.  She can masterfully create environments, characters, props, you name it!  It's an honor to have these two on the team, and I can't wait to work side by side with them.  Please check out there work here, they have some amazing stuff:

Moving Forward

One of the biggest issues with level design early on is when you haven't settled on mechanics.  You have some idea, but as you design, things change and warp, and soon things aren't the same anymore.  This project especially has gone through many changes.  But I'm finally putting things in stone, which means I can start planning out more concrete levels!  

We don't have a big idea of how long this game will be, or the amount of content, though we're shooting small for now.  We're trying to make sure this project doesn't lose steam by taking too long, but we'll try to pour our heart into every minute we can!

Finally, I wanted to let you know that we'll have more updates as time goes on.  I'll post occasionally on this blog, but if you want smaller, and more frequent updates, we have a Discord server you can stay more up to date, and just hang out.  The whole team is on there, and we love to chat with you and other Ori fans.  I hope to see you all there!

The Train Moves On!

Hello World!

It's been a while since I have updated.  I must apologize for this.  There hasn't been much going on here, aside from getting things worked out.  But, I am proud to announce that (as far as I can tell) we can get this project rolling again!  We're really excited about this, and we hope that you are as well.

With that out of the way, we still need your help in many areas, especially with art.  If you are a great artist, or you know someone who is, then please email us at storiesofnibel (at) gmail.com with some of your best work.  Please keep in mind that this project is not funded, and we will not be pay for your work.

A Small History Lesson

Hello world!

There's not much to tell on when this project will continue.  I'm working as hard as I can to get this project back on track.  In the meantime, I thought it would be kinda fun to show off a bit of the history of this project.

In many ways, this project is new.  But this isn't the first version of this game to appear.  There have been many different versions, taking many forms.  The original prototype was 2D, like it is now.  However, I felt the need to expand my programming skills, and try to make a game in 3D.  I still have an old video of the first version, which you can find here:

In spite of these changes, the idea to follow the fallen ancestral trees has always stuck.  Yet I still couldn't decide on who.  First, it was to be Ano (charge flame), then I added Ilo (stomp), and the two just somehow grew together.

Next, three more came on board, Reem, Fil, and Nir (bash, wall jump, and charge jump respectively).  I soon built these characters as much as I could, and I fell in love with them all.  But, as you may know, these are not the current characters anymore.  Things have changed, and I had to put these characters aside.

It was hard to put these characters away, but as the new characters start to come alive, I am excited to see what they bring to the table.

Important News

Hello world!

First, I just want to say thank you to you guys for your support.  It's great to hear that many are excited to see this project become real.  I'm so glad to have your guys' support.

With that said, there's something that needs to be said.  I did say, and will continue to say, that I will do my best to make sure this project is finished and published in whatever way I can.  However, life is hitting hard, and there are things in the future that need to be addressed before I can dedicate more time to this.

This isn't easy for me to say, but it's time for me to pause development until a future date (hopefully soon).  As much as I wish to continue with this project, priorities must be taken care of.  I hope that I will still have your support through this, and I await the time to continue.  Thank you all!

Small Update

Hello world!

Hey guys, just wanted to make a quick update on the game.  There are two things that I want to talk about, so let's dive right in.

Firstly, I've decided it's time to share with you guys the first playable demo!  This is version Pre-Alpha 0.3.2.  It's been in the works for about 2-3 weeks now.  I'm so excited to share it, and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I have making it!

The second item of business, is about the future of this project.  This is a serious undertaking I've allowed myself to take.  This game will take a lot of time to make and perfect as much as possible, and I will work hard to make it the best I can.

There's a lot about the future that is uncertain, as the future often is.  As long as I'm able, I will do my best to make this game until completion.

But, at that note, there may be extended periods of time that I will put this project on hold.  If you do not see an update from me in a long period of time, it's probably means that other, more important things have come up.  I will do my best to make sure you guys are in the loop on this project, and what's happening on my end.

First Game Update

Hello World!

Welcome to the first official update post on this blog.  There are many things to update on, so I'll get started right away.

First, we have a video showcasing some of the mechanics design in the prototype.  Things are bound to change, but it does it's job for now. You can find that here.

Secondly, the composer on the team has shared the first prototype piece on his Soundcloud.  It's a wonder piece, and I would highly suggest you take a listen.

We also have a bit of concept art of left over characters on that page, so feel free to check that out on the left.

We are also working on the basic outline of the story, and settling on which characters we will be including in the main team.  The story as of yet will not be revealed until we get farther along.
